Making Changes that Count

I’m still working through my fresh start–accomplishing the goals I’ve set for myself for 2017. One thing I’m determined to do is to make changes that count. During a daily reading, I recently read the letter to the church at Sardis in Revelation 3:1-3. The words were compelling and challenged me to take a personal inventory of my goals, my motives, and my faith works.

“I know what you do. People say that you are alive, but really you are dead. Wake up! Make yourselves stronger before what little strength you have left is completely gone. I find that what you do is not good enough for my God. So don’t forget what you have received and heard. Obey it. Change your hearts and lives! You must wake up, or I will come to you and surprise you like a thief. You will not know when I will come.

Where are you in your faith walk? Would you be considered alive or dead? Being alive means that were are bearing fruit–there is evidence of our faith walk. Being alive means that we are like an almond tree. We bloom and provide fragrant flowers  for others to enjoy. We also give tasty morsels that feed others’ souls. In other words, we are speaking words of encouragement and meeting the needs of those who require our assistance.

If you are not bearing fruit, you may be in a very dry and barren place right now. You may even be declaring that something has to change and you are gearing up to shift some things in your life. Remember the changes that count are the ones that benefit those around you.

You can change your hair style,
You can change the car you drive.
You can change your address or phone number,
But changes that count are not always seen.

You can change where you work.
You can change where you worship.
You can change who you live with.
But changes that count must come from within.
