You Don’t Have to Call Yourself an Artist to Make Something Beautifuld

So many people want to write a family story, sew a quilt, or start a custom journal, but they stop before they begin because they think, “I’m just not creative.”

As your Creativity Coordinator, I am here to change that. I join you at the very beginning, breaking down the intimidating steps of storytelling, fiber arts, and self-publishing into easy, enjoyable milestones. Together, we will bring your ideas to life and create a finished masterpiece you will be incredibly proud to display in your home or share with the world.

Uncluttered Part 5: Being Still

The older I get, the more I learn about what it means to take a leap of faith. Taking a leap faith is more than making a decision and believing success will happen. It is more than hoping to see the outcome we desire after beginning something new. Often taking a leap of faith is doing nothing–it’s being still.

What do I mean by being still? Being still is more than not moving. It is also being quiet and listening.  Being still is being reflective. Instead of rushing forward with our ideas, we need to reflect on what we’ve already done and see if we are being effective. 20170228_054905Are our children following through on our instructions? Does our spouse feel validated because we took the time to listen and respond to their needs? Do our employees know how much we appreciate them and do they feel comfortable enough with us to let us know when they are not feeling appreciated?

We can get so busy that we rush through everything, including our meditation time or our prayer time. When we get an idea or set a goal, we push ourselves to get things accomplished and forget to take a step back to reflect on the progress we are making. We neglect to ask ourselves, “Is this working?” “Should I take a different approach?” “Did I respond appropriately to a specific situation?” “Did I make the right decision?” “How is what I’m doing influencing others?” Taking moments to stop and reflect is wise and beneficial to success.

We are called to be wise in our dealing with others. We also need to be wise in dealing with ourselves. Being still is a wise move if we want to accomplish our life’s dreams.

While you are charging forward through this week, don’t forget to take a moment to stop and reflect. Look around you and listen to the sounds of the people in your life. Being still can be a gift to yourself and others.
